Development Prospects of Adhesive Vinyl and One Way Vision in 2024

Recently, with the rapid economic advancement, businesses have significantly increased investment in advertising, especially outdoor campaigns. The industry’s growth over the past four to five years clearly reflects this trend, with adhesive vinyl and one-way vision films emerging as among the most widely used promotional materials.

Over the past two years, growing environmental awareness has led to a surge in demand for adhesive vinyl and one-way vision films due to their low energy consumption, easy installation, and cost-effectiveness, with annual growth rates ranging from 30% to 50%. Industry experts predict that in the near future, adhesive vinyl and one-way vision films will dominate the outdoor advertising materials market.

Adhesive vinyl is suitable for solvent-based, weak solvent-based, UV-curing, flatbed printing, and screen printing. It is commonly seen in daily applications such as car wraps, subway advertisements, billboards, bus shelters, and airport signage. Additionally, adhesive vinyl is also used in glass curtain wall advertisements, exhibitions, irregular surface advertising, durable outdoor signage, and product labels.

One-way vision film, created in the early 1990s, is a new type of advertising and decorative material. It consists of a glossy white monomeric PVC film with a certain thickness laminated onto a black backing film. Utilizing advanced technology, it is coated with silicone release paper and then perforated and cut into evenly spaced fine mesh.

When applied facing outdoors onto glass or transparent surfaces, even without any graphics, one-way vision film can effectively block outdoor light and visibility, providing both beautification and privacy effects.

When applied with the black side facing indoors, it does not obstruct the view from inside to outside, allowing for the creation of printed graphics and advertisements on the front side. One-way vision film is widely used in vehicles, building exterior glass, advertising displays, and various outdoor light-blocking applications.

During events such as the 2022 Olympics, major competitions, and elections, many buildings use one-way vision film as promotional materials on their exterior walls. Its three-dimensional appearance, grandeur, and vividness make it highly favored by advertisers.

One of the main reasons for the rapid growth in the usage of adhesive vinyl and one-way vision film, which are increasingly favored by a wide range of users, is their lightweight nature, making them easy to carry and facilitating construction.

Despite being made from PVC, each square meter of adhesive vinyl weighs only a little over 100 grams, significantly lighter than the relatively heavier flex banners.

Moreover, the pure PVC surface of adhesive vinyl can be recycled and reused after use, aligning with our environmental conservation principles.

Both adhesive vinyl and one-way vision film belong to the category of back-adhesive products, allowing for quick and easy installation with just a simple peel-and-stick process, making them irreplaceable by other products.

The manufacturing process of adhesive vinyl and one-way vision film is relatively simple, but it requires high precision in processing technology.

In particular, for one-way vision film, the key technical challenge lies in ensuring the uniform and efficient coating of the black adhesive backing and the precise perforation process, resulting in smooth apertures without any burrs or adhesive debris.

Many China manufacturers are capable of producing one-way vision film, most of which have mastered the necessary technical expertise, with rigorous production processes and reliable quality assurance measures.

As one of the largest and longest-standing manufacturers in China, Guangdong TOME Ad Media Ltd. boasts advanced technology and equipment, as well as leading quality assurance practices. It has obtained ISO 9000 certification domestically and adopts the widely recognized 6S management system, ensuring stringent production processes and quality assurance measures from raw materials to processing, warehousing, and delivery.

Currently, its main products are exported to over 150 countries and regions across Asia, Europe, South America, the Middle East, and Africa.

In 2023, the demand for adhesive vinyl experienced a rapid increase, with global demand estimated to be around 800 million square meters, primarily sourced from Europe, China, and South Korea. Although adhesive vinyl has a history of several decades, it is still relatively new to China, having entered the Chinese market in the 1990s. Over the past five to six years, it has gradually gained widespread use in outdoor advertising production.

Currently, China’s production and sales volume has reached a considerable scale, with most products being exported worldwide, making China the “factory” for adhesive vinyl and one-way vision film globally. As of today, there are over twenty manufacturers of adhesive vinyl in China, mainly concentrated in the Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta regions, with five to six factories having an annual production capacity of over 20 million square meters. The total production volume is close to 300 million square meters, accounting for nearly 30% of global demand.

The market demand for one-way vision film products emerged slightly later than that of vehicle wraps. Currently, there are nearly ten manufacturers, mainly concentrated in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and other regions. There are not many factories with an annual production capacity exceeding 10 million square meters, with TOME standing out in terms of scale.

In recent years, there has been an increasing emphasis on environmental protection, demanding outdoor advertising materials to be pollution-free, low-toxic, reusable, and biodegradable. Reliable industry data shows that dozens of new environmentally friendly advertising materials are launched every year, with nearly 10 types such as flex banners, adhesive vinyl, and one-way vision film. Emerging eco-friendly materials resistant to UV and heat transfer printing have been introduced in Europe, the Americas, and other regions (such as PE woven fabric, UV non-woven fabric), and low-toxic vehicle wraps and one-way vision films have also been launched. In the future, there will be higher requirements for the adhesives and PVC films used in back-adhesive products.

Due to the convenience of installation, air bubble-free adhesive vinyl is becoming increasingly popular. Adhesive vinyl and one-way vision films will shift from PVC to non-PVC materials, and water-based adhesives will trend towards environmental protection. These are the directions for the industry’s future development.

In the first quarter of 2023, with the global economic recovery, sales of adhesive vinyl and one-way vision film manufacturers increased by over 30% compared to the same period last year, and this growth trend has continued. As times change, adhesive vinyl and one-way vision films will play a greater role and value in outdoor advertising.
